About Southside Baptist Church
Southside Baptist
Church can look back on over 100 years of ministry in this community and
around the world. We look forward, God willing, to many more years of seeking
to glorify Jesus Christ in all that we do.
Our Mission: Southside Baptist Church
exists to love God and others, to "make disciples" through birthing new sons and
daughters into His kingdom, then maturing them through His Word and to rear
godly children, through strong, established families
Our Values
-
LOVE: When Christ was asked the
question, "What is the greatest commandment?" He responded by saying, "To
love God and others." Further, Jesus told us that love was to be the
brand of the believer. By "this" you will know my disciples.
Love for God and others was central in the teachings of Christ and was the
major motive for his coming. We express our love by obedience to His
commands, fellowship and daily communion and worship.
-
MAKING DISCIPLES: On His return to
heaven, Christ commanded we "make disciples." Our going to the four
corners of the world is only for this task. This is our mandate, our
mission and our call. Making disciples involves (1) Birthing new
Christians into God's family and (2) Raising them in the nurture and
admonition of the Lord. It means educating and equipping them for
their transformation.
-
THE BIBLE: Jesus was clear in His
mandate that we are to "make disciples" by teaching them all things that He
had commanded. We believe that the Bible is God's eternal Word.
It is only through this Word (and faith in it) that one can be born into
God's kingdom forever. And, it is through the teachings of God's Word
that believers are matured, equipped and set free. Further, we believe
the Word of God is normative for all human beings.
-
THE FAMILY: Before God established
the church, He established the family. God takes a special interest in
marriage and the family. He desires godly offspring and has instituted
the family as an instrument for the expression of His love as a holy
training ground and as the basic unit of society.
